Our Outdoor and Environmental Education Centres operate from September until the end of June, providing dynamic and innovative programs grounded in the Ontario Curriculum for students from grade 1 to 12.

Excellence in Programming
We incorporate a wide variety of exciting teaching techniques including drama, storytelling, music, hands-on games and activities. Our programs are educational, engaging and fun! We are also able to tailor-design a program to fit a unit of classroom study or to modify existing programs to emphasize an area of learning that you want to focus on.

Environmental Education With a wind turbine, passive and active solar systems and unique straw bale buildings, including a solar straw bale greenhouse, we provide students with concrete and inspiring examples of alternatives to fossil fuels. Our newly revised alternative energy program features solar cookers, solar ovens, model solar powered cars and a variety of hands-on and experientially based equipment.  Our award winning Camp Kawartha Environment Centre, is one of Canada’s most sustainable buildings.

Commitment to Professionalism Our educators, all university graduates, many teacher-trained, share a lifetime commitment to excellence in education in the outdoors. They combine a wide range of knowledge and experience in natural science, history, geography, environmental studies, outdoor living skills, group development and adventure learning.

Here are just a few testimonials from teachers that have visited our centre.  Click here for more Teacher's Testimonials

Our experiences at Camp Kawartha have been phenomenal! Our “city kids” have truly gained a greater appreciation for nature and our environment, as well as have experiences and take risks they would never have had the opportunity for in their daily lives. We love Camp Kawartha and will be back again next year!

- P. Mageau, E. Bridgeford, D. Pankhurst, J. Zubac, Teachers, Josyf Cardinal Slipyj, Grade 4-7

Our school’s 14 year relationship with Camp Kawartha is built upon the foundation of excellence and commitment found at all levels of the C.K. family

- Will Woods, Teacher, Ridpath PS, Grade 6

You can always depend on a great experience at Camp Kawartha with Ontario Curriculum links, great facilities, friendly, knowledgeable staff and a well run program. We look forward to returning each year for many years to come. A quote from the kids: “Do we have to leave?

- Judy Lohnes, Teacher, Westmount PS, Grade 6

Our students had a great time. The hands-on experiences outdoors lent themselves to some great exploration of some big ideas. They created a springboard to further enrich classroom discussions. The knowledgeable staff was highly valued as you could tell they believed in what they were doing (watershed model). The food was also really good – dedication to local & healthy products valuable lessons for our students too.

- Humphreys, Baggetta, Graybowski, Teachers, The Bishop Strachan School, Grade 4

Camp Kawartha is a very special place for us. This is our 3rd year returning. We are excited to enjoy local vegetarian food; share a talking circle in the glowing tepee at night with 47 of us; take risks way up high in the tree tops; and grow together as a group, gaining trust, memories and friendship

- P. Koekebakker, W. Koekebakker, S. Quackenbush, Teachers, IE Weldon Secondary School, Grade 11/12
