Earthbound Kids connects children to natural fun in the safe and scenic setting of the Earthbound Kids tree farm. Inspiring their passion for the planet through hands-on, age-appropriate farm experiences a day at Earthbound includes something for everyone.  Engaging all types of learners and all of the senses, our food and farming programs encourage kids to make healthier choices for themselves, animals and the earth.

How it Works:

1. Choose the length of your schools workshop. (2hr, 3hr & 4hr options)

2. Choose your programs. Each workshop can include 2 to 4 programs.

3. Choose the length of each program*. (30min or 50min)

School Workshops

Composting and Decomposers
pre-K to grade 8 30 min or 50 min

From organisms in the ‘soil web of life’ to the how’s and why’s of composting, students explore consumption, waste and decomposition. In this 50 minute program students will take soil samples and examine it’s PH levels, composition and quality. Grade 8 students will be challenged with a STEM activity involving microscopes.

Threatened Barn Swallows
pre-K to grade 7 30 min or 50 min april to october

In this program students will have a chance to observe the Barn Swallow in action! Students will learn about the swallows life cycle, the causes of this threatened species population decrease and get to participate in Barn Swallow nest making. Older grades explore the historical importance of Barn Swallows. This 50 minute program also includes a more in depth lesson on insects (Barn Swallow diet).

The Secret Garden
pre-K to grade 3 30 min or 50 min

Students will explore the Earthbound garden with all their senses! Students will learn the importance of backyard gardening and how it affects the ecosystem and the individual. During the 50 minute program students will make handmade seed paper to take home.

The Fiber Farm
pre-k to grade 8 30 min or 50 min

Alpaca and Sheep are in the spotlight as students learn about fiber farming, textiles and fiber arts. Students skirt, clean and card raw fleece. During the 50 minute program students will have an opportunity to try their hand at dyeing wool and wet felting.

WORKSHOP FEES

2-hour workshop – $8 +HST per child
3-hour workshop – $10 +HST per child
4-hour workshop – $12 +HST per child

$250 +hst minimum charge for 2-3 hours
$300 +hst minimum charge for 4 hours

Non-refundable deposit required to secure field trip date – $125
* The 3 and 4-hour workshops will have a 1-hour lunch/free time scheduled for your group
