THE MASK MESSENGER aka LE MASQUE EST LET MESSAGE
THE MASK MESSENGER (aka LE MASQUE EST LE MESSAGE)
is an engaging mix of theatre, physical comedy, and life lessons, a tour de force performance that humorously explores the artistic, cultural, and psychological use of masks throughout history. This menagerie of nearly twenty characters cuts to heart of human matters, and leaves audiences laughing and learning. In vignettes ranging from comic to poignant to bizarre, this performance expands the concept of ‘mask’ to include body language, makeup, jewelry, and the many faces we all wear daily. There are oversized silent masks, half-masked characters that speak, and masks worn on top of the head creating the illusion of crawling creatures. There is quick-change artistry, an occasional celebrity appearance, and physical distortions that baffle the eye and tickle our primal funny bones. The show is thoroughly entertaining, while at the same time highly thought-provoking. FAUSTWORK MASK THEATRE has performed at The Vancouver Playhouse, The Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Hall in L.A., The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and The Maui Arts and Cultural Center, as well as numerous schools and theatres throughout Canada and the United States.

The Montreal Gazette

We will focus on sculpting a face with specific emotional content that will project well from all angles. Teachers will be given a mask-making techniques handout for mask-making follow-up. Residency Activities A wide variety of residency activities can be designed to meet the needs of individual sponsors or schools.
