FIRST NATION CULTURAL TOURS provides cultural tourism to people seeking to educate themselves and others about Indigenous People; in particular about the Ojibwa People and the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation.
Your Facilitator: JAKE CHARLES or Na-nock-a-shee (Hummingbird) is an Ojibwa from the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation (located off the south point of Lake Simcoe). He represents the Wolf Clan and is the CEO of First Nation Cultural Tours on Georgina Island. Through teachings from his Elders, Jake carries a traditional knowledge of the Indigenous culture which he shares with all nations. Jake is a drum and pipe carrier for his community as well as a fourth generation Traditional Maple Syrup maker. Jake enjoys sharing his traditional knowledge with others in the hopes of educating the public to issues surrounding Indigenous communites.
We understand how important it is (especially with the recent TRC and the changes made to the curriculum) for educators to correctly represent the Indigenous People of Canada in their classroom. We have developed exciting programming for students of all age groups – while paying special attention to specific grade requirements. We offer (but are not limited to):
Class Room Visits (with curriculum based discussions!) – Craft workshops – Drum Circles – Assemblies & Performances
Island Tours (NOW CLOSED FOR THE SEASON)
Feel free to ask about our Cultural Competency Training for you and your staff as well.
