Théâtre français de Toronto (TfT) reaches a large school-aged audience. Most of our productions are presented as school matinees to francophone students, students in French immersion programs, and to English schools that teach French as a second language.
TfT seeks to engage young audiences to the world of theatre — in French. School matinees are offered for the majority of its shows and throughout the season.
This youth-centric cultural program enables francophone and Francophile students living in the GTA to come and see professionally-produced plays in Canada’s second language – in a real theatre setting.
LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR YOUTH-EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Les Zinspirés is a youth-development program intended on introducing the art of playwriting and storytelling to local teenagers (14 to 18 years old). This unique initiative encourages Toronto’s youth to express themselves freely and find the means to do so effectively – through theatre. The program starts off with a writing contest organized in schools followed by three dramaturgy workshops for the students whose texts have been selected. Finally, a professional theatrical production featuring 5 stories is mounted and publicly shown at the Berkeley Street Theatre.
Year after year, the results are astonishing. The 2012 and 2014 instalments were nominated for two Dora Awards: Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Performance – Ensemble.
