Here are just a few of the things we offer:

Building Character & Resiliency

Our resiliency and character-building workshops help develop the “out-of-the-box” thinkers and leaders of tomorrow by introducing and reinforcing core skills that will last a lifetime. Every participant will have the opportunity to develop their own personal creativity and open themselves up to possibilities that they had been previously avoiding without even knowing it. Give yourself, your students, or your staff a leg up!

The Power of Yes And… (Our Introductory Workshop)

The first step to unlocking your creativity is learning to say YES. Through a series of improvisational exercises, you will be introduced to the first rule of improvisation. You will experience how combining the act of acceptance and bringing your own ideas to the table creates the golden rule of improv: “Yes, and…”

Focus UP!

Building creativity and character takes a tremendous amount of focus. In this workshop, our instructors will work with you to hone your focusing skills. We use a series of improvisational exercises to challenge your focus and show you the importance of keeping your “Focus UP” while developing your own creativity and building character.

Failure is a Gift… Unwrap it.

Throughout history people have been told that failure is something to be afraid of. Focus UP believes that the best way to build character is to learn from your mistakes. By exploring failures with a new perspective, you experience how to view them as gifts. Through a series of exercises you confront your unfounded fear of failure and learn how to see the possibilities that each gift brings.

Storytelling with a PUNCH!

Learn the art of stage combat, the safeties and how to create your own choreography to give your story telling a real PUNCH! Our courses teach the safest way to perform any staged “hand-to-hand” or “weapon-based” fights while focusing on how to achieve the look and style your story needs.

"Focus Up" came to our school on 3 occasions and conducted stage combat workshops. They were very professional, clearly understood how to work with adolescents and very knowledgeable. Safety was paramount in the session and my students learned a lot about on-stage fighting. We will definitely have them back to our school.

The YMCA Day Camps have been booking these workshops this past summer, and we have always been completely satisfied with the quality and educational programming that Dwayne and his team has brought along with to each and every visit. Our campers range from ages 6-12 and our staff/volunteers are ages 13+. Dwayne’s programming has been appropriate for all ages and has been engaging for a variety of people including our youngest campers and campers with exceptionalities. He has always worked to make sure the programming is inclusive for everyone involved, even our counsellors. I feel the workshops are safe, fun and educational and we can’t wait for Focus Up to come back in the years to come.

I had great feedback from the kids who were able to articulate the purpose of the activities and what they got out of the Resiliency program. The staff were impressed and the students were enaged.

As good as workshops are, the most important aspect to me is what the kids use long AFTER  the workshops are over.  Throughout the school year I watched students  employ the techniques taught by Focus Up instructors again and again....techniques they used with confidence and the safety of their acting partners in mind.  Simply stated, Focus Up did a terrific job with our students.

We had a student with Aspergers and to see him thoroughly engaged in the activities and finding his voice was a big step forward for him.

Not only did they deliver a course that focused on life skills like communication, listening, co-operation, teamwork and resilience, but they did it in a fun and engaging way.
