Education Programs

Green Venture offers sustainable living tours of EcoHouse year round.   During the school year, curriculum based tours are available for teachers who wish to take their students on a half-day environmentally focused field trip to Green Venture’s one-of-a-kind EcoHouse headquarters.

EcoHouse is Southern Ontario’s only retrofitted environmental demonstration home that offers a unique opportunity to educators to show their students how to live more sustainably.  Visitors will see many environmentally friendly technologies and behaviours while touring the 150-year-old historically designated home and 2-acre property.  Sustainable living practices such as natural gardening, composting and vermicomposting, rain water collection, energy conservation, waste reduction and wise water use will be explained and demonstrated to students to show how they too can make changes to live more sustainably.

Tours are available for:

  • school groups
  • home schoolers
  • Girl Guide and Boy Scouts
  • other youth groups
  • adult community organizations, groups, and club

Teacher Testimonial

"The EcoHouse tour provided the students with an excellent opportunity for environmental education outside the classroom.  The activities the students participated in were both interesting and interactive and served to enhance their awareness of water and energy conservation as well as waste reduction.

The tour leaders enthusiastically shared their knowledge and illicited a great deal of student involvement allowing them the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions.  In an era where we are faced with enormous environmental challenges, environmental education should be an integral part of our educational system.  By experiencing EcoHouse, the students recognized the important need to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.

EcoHouse was undoubtedly a worthwhile school trip and was thoroughly enjoyed by both the students and teachers.  Many of our students expressed their excitement about everything they had learned and commented on how "cool" the experience was.  We will definitely visit again!"
